Fighting Corruption in Sierra Leone
Transparency International Sierra Leone (TISL), formerly the National Accountability Group (NAG), is a local non-profit, non-governmental anti-corruption advocacy organization. It was established as a taskforce in 2001 under the Campaign for Good Governance after seven professional Sierra Leoneans participated in the International Anti-Corruption Conference in Prague, organized by Transparency International.
Our Evolution
- July 2004: Reorganized as an independent organization with a mandate to achieve greater accountability, transparency, and integrity.
- March 2008: Granted "National Chapter in Formation" status by the Transparency International Secretariat in Berlin.
- September 2010: Granted full accreditation as the Local Chapter in Sierra Leone.
- April 2011: Officially adopted the new name and logo at our headquarters.
Organizational Objectives
TISL is an independent Non-Governmental Organisation focusing on promoting integrity, ethics, and anti-corruption values in personal and national development efforts.
Our goal is to curb corruption by holding local and national governments accountable and assisting victims of corrupt practices.
- Educate and raise public awareness of key stakeholders to understand corruption issues and their negative impact.
- Build the capacity of public officials, private sector, civil society, and media to resist and curb corruption.
- Provide adequate and credible evidence on corruption issues within the public and private sectors.
- Develop advocacy tools for the elimination of factors leading to corruption and injustice.
- Facilitate opportunities for vulnerable groups/victims of corruption to overcome their predicament.
- Foster partnership with national and international stakeholders aligned with our objectives.
Our Work & Approach
Systemic Change
Working with government and state institutions to enforce measures that curb corruption and create an enabling environment for integrity.
Collaboration
Partnering with stakeholders to develop evidence-based advocacy and collaborating with like-minded groups.
Support
Supporting vulnerable groups (women, children, youth) with information, skills, and opportunities to resist corruption.

Providing general and specific information to the public and key stakeholders on the causes and effects of corruption.

Following up closely on institutions and national development processes to ensure transparency and accountability.
Coalition & Capacity Building
Fostering linkages and alliances, and strengthening the capacity of partners to promote integrity with one voice.
Technical Assistance & Legal Advice
Providing specialized training, fiscal sponsorship, and free legal advice for citizens to address corruption concerns.
